EMMANUELLE BOUSQUET

Born in 1979 in Nîmes, France. Lives and works in Paris and Eygalières. Started photography at the age of ten.

Born into a family of couturiers from a famous French brand whose name she has always kept secret, Emmanuelle Bousquet was influenced by her environment and naturally placed herself in front of the lens, posing in the manner of the models she had seen photographed so often throughout her childhood.

As a teenager, she photographed those close to her and increasingly saw photography as a means of expression in its own right.

In 2004 she met the photographer Antoine d'Agata. He encouraged her to explore all the facets of the self-portrait. This incitement was to prove decisive in her career. She would use her body as a painter uses his own paint. Fascinated by the idea of confronting the torments of introspection, she discovered herself to be an explorer of femininity, with an obsession to experience the skin, the flesh of women from every angle, to cover her body with her own second skin.

A chronic search for freedom from her family origins…
